Equanimity Magazine hopes that readers will gain insight and inspiration from people in various industries and walks of life from around the world.

Our Story

Equanimity is defined as a state of mental calmness, composure and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation. Equanimity Magazine was born from Lumbie Mlambo’s dream of finding equanimity in her own life.

Lumbie grew up in a rural part of Zimbabwe known as Matebeleland before moving to the United States. Her passion for Computer Science and Information Technology lead to her earning an Associate's Degree in Computer Science and Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. Lumbie launched her career in Software Development in 1996, and later worked as a business analyst in the IT Industry. She also worked as Software Engineer with JP Morgan Chase for 10 years. Lumbie achieved all of this, while also raising her two sons with her husband. Finding balance in both work and home life has always been very important to her.

In 2009, Lumbie launched Equanimity LLC and Equanimity Magazine. Equanimity Magazine was originally a nationally distributed, high quality glossy quarterly that was available in stores such as Barnes & Noble. Influential celebrities such as veteran actress and singer, Gloria Loring (mother of pop star Robin Thicke) and megachurch pastor and author T.D. Jakes have graced the cover of Equanimity Magazine. However, Lumbie made a decision to mostly feature everyday people, and not only celebrities.

In line with Lumbie's values and ongoing desire to give back to her local community, Equanimity Magazine has a powerful philanthropic aspect that sponsors many events in and around Grapevine, Texas (near Dallas). The events mostly center around eco-friendly causes and products in line with Lumbie's green aesthetic, such as Trash & Treasure – a lake shoreline cleanup initiative. In 2014, Lumbie founded and pioneered a Walk-4-Green movement, which encourages workers to take time out of their busy work schedules to walk for 30 minutes a day to relieve job stress, have fun, and appreciate life. This was inspired by Lumbie’s late mother’s unique approach to life.

Lumbie hopes to honor her father’s legacy of giving back by providing equanimity to all through encouraging, empowering, motivating, and inspiring others to not give up but pursue their dreams and goals, so that they may become productive, help themselves, and serve in their communities.
